The benefits of Matcha Tea

Matcha tea has become well known around the world in the last couple of years, while in Japan this drink has been as popular as green tea for decades.

I have been observing this drink invading coffee shops in Dublin and got curious about learning more about it and why it is considered so healthy.

So here are the main benefits of matcha:

  • It contains a lot of antioxidants. Without going too deep into chemistry these are powerful substances that protect us from a lot of diseases (including cancer) by prohibiting the oxidation of other molecules in our bodies. They normally can be found in fruits and vegetables, while it is said that matcha contains 50 times more of these powerful molecules! Win-win.
  • It promotes relaxation. L-Theanine in matcha stimulates the alpha-waves which help your brain to relax (without causing somnolence)
  • Stimulates memory and concentration. Thanks to L-Theanine once again, it can last up to 6 hours but without nervousness or hypertonia.
  • Burns calories. It increases metabolism helping your body to get rid of that stubborn fat
  • Detoxes. Chlorophyll gives the drink this beautiful green colour and helps the body to get rid of the toxins
  • Boosts immune system. The drink contains a lot of powerful vitamins including A and C together with iron and calcium.

After I read about all these benefits I was so excited to get matcha to drink it at home. However, it can be a bit tricky to prepare it as normally you would need a special whisk in order to blend it smooth.

After a long search, I managed to find the “Matcha Ninja” brand that promised a time-saving consumption by just mixing some matcha and milk/water. I decided to give it a try and order it from Canada. The package arrived today and I tried immediately their matcha latte recipe. Well, it’s just as brilliant as it sounds – was a perfect pre-workout boost. If you are looking for an easy way to make that beloved drink, you might want to try the “Matcha Ninja” out.
